I got out and about today. It snowed though it didn't stick. I had dressed in a t-shirt with a fuzzy sweater over it and my pink 'marshmallow jacket.' Inside Baby's-R-Us, where I spent most of the afternoon, it was quite toasty so I shed the jacket immediately. Unfortunately I felt I had to keep the sweater on the whole time. Why? The shirt I had chosen was a Bushmill's Irish Whiskey tee. Not so maternal. I just couldn't bring myself to market whiskey in a baby store.
My friend Sherry is old hat at mommyhood with a little girl who turns one tomorrow. She met me and offered her advice on what is truly needed, what is useless, and most importantly lent me her mommy-pillow. Last night was the first night that sleeping became uncomfortable. My hips are spreading, things are moving, and sleeping on my tummy or back just won't cut it anymore. Sleeping on my side made my hips sink like rocks into the memory foam. I'm hoping this long, flexible pillow will help. Sherry says she swore by it.
So, what did I find? I'll show you.
First and foremost. THE CHAIR. Oh my goodness. This chair is perfect. It is a glider rocker that reclines and has a wide seat. The ottomon glides too. It's just comfortable. I could easily spend the next few years sitting in this chair. I spent at least ten minutes in it at the store today. I just sat and took in the fact that I was browsing a baby store.
Did I mention that it was by far the most expensive chair in the store? I'm hoping to find one online for a better price.
#2. The Not So Giant Stroller
I really like that this stroller is so stream-lined. It will lay back so Baby DB can nap. It has a five point harness. It has a basket underneath. It's still much lighter weight that your typical Super-stroller. Portability is enticing for sure.
#3. The Pouch
I have known for years that when I did have a child I would want to use a pouch carrier, especially with my newborn. I love the idea of having the baby so close to me and it will be very easy to breast feed discretely with a pouch. Also, less stuff to drag behind me, therefore more portability. I tried this one on today and it fit very well. It wasn't over padded but offered strong support and soft fabric.
So there you have it. My first I Want list as a new mommy.
Seriously, it's like you're keeping my pregnancy journal for me since I didn't really do one. :) OK, first of all... THE CHAIR. Splurge on it. You will spend a lot a lot a lot A LOT of time in it, and you want it to be comfy. We have my brother's hand-me-down, and it's just OK. It's already broken twice since we've had it (it's 8 years old and has been through four babies!) and we might have to buy a new one anyway. A good one is worth every penny, especially if you're going to have more than one baby!
ReplyDeleteAnd you will swear by the mommy pillow, too. I think I started using mine around 10 weeks and proceeded to use it for the next 29. :) It really is a hip-saver!
I love your blog. It reminds me how much I loved being pregnant and love being a mommy! (uh oh... does this mean that I may actually want to do it again sometime??) :)
Thanks for the encouragement and advice Becky. I am glad you are enjoying the blog. You and the fam should come over to the mountains this summer. Picnics on the Blue Ridge Parkway are the best!

ReplyDeleteLOVE THEM. i got one on sale, it has a tattooed theme. i have used it ALOT since Jax was born. and the Chair... YEA... LOVED it. i had it both with Mandy and the first few months with Jax. definitly needed. there are times when walking doesn't help a fussy baby. but the chair will put them right to sleep! that or calm them down. and... i have that stroller. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. it folds up and has a strap so that i can sling it over my shoulder. and its super light. which is necessary as a mommy. since you're the human pack mule. GOOD CHOICES! the thing i couldn't live with out are Link a Doos. little links. that connect to hook toys up to carseats, to cribs, to EVERYTHING i tell you. Fisher Price makes the best ones. called Link a Doo's. had them with BOTH mandy and Jax
